Four Hearts Foundation was founded in March of 2022 .The Four Hearts Foundation was created and a plan was presented to the Portsmouth Town Council in April of 2022. The plan was unanimously approved and the two set out to spread the mission and raise enough funds for the playground build.

We offically opned the Portsmouth Community Playground on June 1st 2024!

We believe in this project. We believe that for able bodied children there is no greater gift than to teach them acceptance, understanding and have an environment that fosters these teachings and life long lessons. We believe that for handicap children there is no greater gift than this same environment. One where they feel their needs have not only been considered, but executed. A place where they can play with their peers of all abilities. Play is so important for the growth of children socially, emotionally and physically. This playground will be a place to foster all of this growth while providing the community with some place special to call their own.

The playground has been carefully curated with Megan O'Brien from O'Brien and Sons to meet the needs of all ages and abilities. We have many structures that are of course fun, but serve a bigger purpose. For example, our friendship swing. This is a lot of fun to face your friends or parent but is also a wonderful therapy tool for children who struggle with eye contact and motion. This is just one example of the many aspects of the playground designed with children needs in mind.

We have designed the playground to have separate structures for ages 0-5 and also 5-12. The older child structure has been designed to be fun and challenging yet safe for wondering littles ones to also explore, learn and grow.

The flooring will be a soft "pour in place" rubber that is handicap accessible, weather resistant and decreases injury.

It has been designed with love, research and knowledge to suit the needs of the children of Aquidneck Island and Rhode Island. We hope you love it as much as we do.
